AUTH THESIS PROJECT
Thesis title: Digital Image Processing & Network Programming for the development of Intelligent Transportation Systems applied in traffic management.
Supervisor: Dimitrios Mitrakos
Graphical Work: George Siokas
Institution: Computer Communication Networks, Division of Electronics & Computer Engineering, Dept. of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
Summary
This diploma thesis aspires to limit the traffic congestion problem that exists in the centre of Thessaloniki -but also in any other city that faces similar problems- and reduce the amount of time needed to find an empty space, by proposing a system which recognizes the state of car parks via an intelligent algorithm. The system is related to Intelligent Transportation Systems, which are widely used in many developed and developing countries. Their main goal is to manage transportation, settle any traffic problems and improve the quality of people’s lives. The intelligent algorithm which was developed during this thesis, was implemented according to the same image processing techniques that are used for digital video processing in Intelligent Transportation Systems. In addition, apart from its development, the algorithm was linked to a user-friendly interface, which was developed for the visualization of the results/data provided by the intelligent algorithm.
